QuarterYellowStudios is located in the heart of Downtown Binghamton, NY under the umbrella of JungleSciene: Gallery and Artist Laboratory. It is here, in an environment dedicated to the artist, we were inspired to achieve more, to expand our knowledge of the arts, and to employ a network of highly creative and immensely innovative, hard working artists.

QuarterYellowCreates. Our business will employ both intellectually and academically trained artists that offer a myriad of creative services that range from the commercial to the fine to the avant-garde. By using art as an economic engine we hope to demonstrate the value of the artist in modern society.

QuarterYellowDisplays. Our gallery exhibits work by enthusiastic emerging artist, hungry to display their work to the public. These first time exhibitioners are put through a unique and designed process that not only instills confidence in their own creativity, but also gives them the skill sets required to find opportunity in their field in the arts.

QuarterYellowExpands. Our mission is to employ a global artist network that fosters work ethic, creativity and community. A job in California is not simply a job; it is an opportunity to meet new artists and perspective employees who can represent QYS miles away from our Binghamton base. By doing this we hope to build a support system and a community of talented and driven artists, despite the fact they may be states, or even oceans, apart.

Results: March First Friday.

The results are in and Friday Friday: March '11 edition is the undeniable winner. From the packed crowds to the trading of art work, our latest First Friday may have been our most successful to date. People crammed themselves into our small art loft just to see what was poppin' at QuarterYellowStudios. Of course, we can't just take the credit ourselves, as much as we wish we could. No, much of the credit must go to our Artist of the Month, Aaron Sheldon. Without his tremendous talent and dedication to the show, this would not have been possible. In case you missed it, and we're sure you had a good reason, here's a little eye candy for you. We know that's what you really want.

Show 2
That's right folks. We hung it from the ceiling.

Show 1
The lovely Aaron, pouring the adoring public some drinks!

Is the overwhelming feeling of depression hitting you because you now see what you have missed? Well, feel sad no longer because Aaron will back next month with new work! So don't miss it.

In other QYS related news, Kady Perry has been hard at work on her own projects that include working on not one, not two, but three different murals! Yes, three. And she has a little message she would like to get out there:

My name is Kady Perry and I am a muralist. I am working on a mural in the union underground across from the Pipedream office. I am restoring the mural someone began and did not finish, most students know exactly which one! The goal of the rehabilitation of the mural is to create B.U. school pride. One way to do this is by including the names of student clubs/groups on campus in the mural (specifically in the petals of the many flowers). Since there are so many organizations, I am looking to have the students email and request a spot for their club/group. Tell your friends to submit, too! Also it is imperative that I get input from students, so I am also looking for ideas/feedback/requests on what should be included, as well as any response to What do you find iconic about B.U.? Email Kady Perry at kperry1@binghamton.edu.

And here is a quick look at the before mentioned mural, a student started, and Kady is revamping! The "before" persay be sure to look for the "after" in April!

Stomping the Woods

Are you getting ready? Ready for what you say. Ready for First Friday at the one, the only QuarterYellowStudios, of course. This week we have the extremely talented Aaron Sheldon joining us and we could not be more excited. A printmaking major, Aaron joins us from BU and has an interesting story to tell. Do you want to know? Good, because here it is.

"I grew up in a small valley, surrounded by forests and wildlife. At the time, I was close with my uncle and members of my family had brought me into a discrete world of the wild hunt. My work isn't about wildlife, it isn't about the act of hunting, but rather my progression through that stage of my life where I transformed from boyhood to man. It was curious, this rite of passage, as women had a clear cut "when you bleed, you're a woman." The men had, traditionally, sanctioned times to pass this rite on, and mine had come at the age of nine. This show is a reflection on myself as a social critique through puberty and a man's rite of passage through hunts. I incorporate printmaking (monotypes) and sculpture to mirror this memory."

If that's not enough to get you Downtown on March 4th, just take a look at some of his work.

The October Show

Greetings! And welcome back. What a pleasure it is to see all of you. Another First Friday has come and gone and, as always, we are here to give you the updates. October proved to be a wonderful, albeit dimly lit, show. Though QuarterYellowStudios kept Kady Perry’s Works in Progress display up another month, we had quite the different audience this time. I think it might have something to do with the changing seasons. If you don’t believe me just take a look!

Hardly a light source.

In other news, Ms. Perry was recently appointed the position of secretary to the Gorgeous Washington Street Association AKA the creators of First Friday. Below is the website.

I feel a round of applause is in order. Don’t worry, we can hear it through our computer screens. That's just how the internet works. But on a more serious note, next time you meander into our little studio, please don’t be afraid to voice your opinions on how to make Friday Friday a better event for all. QuarterYellow is now in a position to help bring change to the establishment and let the people of Binghamton have their voices heard. We certainly look forward to hearing them.

Unauthorized Mural: take two.

JUST PAINT! That has been the mantra around QuarterYellowStudios for the past month. With less than 48 hours until the next show, just paint is all we can do to ensure you, the eager public, have a chance to see what has been consuming all of Kady Perry’s free time. With over three weeks of work, the leaps that have been made are incredible. But don’t just take my word for it, you might not trust me just yet. Instead take a look at the pictures, conveniently located beneath this text.

With help from her supporting artists, Kady has created an entirely new world from what was once nothing more than an egg shell white wall. She has made her mark. She has made it permanent. But why the need for permanency? Well, that lies in her interest with color theory and color harmony.

Whether it be from the flashing neon lights of our biggest cities or the subtle earth tones from our quaintest country sides, color is what attracts Kady when she looks out at the world. Obsessively studying both color theory and color harmony for over two years, she has learned the intricate process behind using both these tools to create her own brand of murals. By using color and design, she takes the largest blank canvas available and renders a world tailor made for her and her clients. Her addition of color and shape can create a new environment that turns a meaningless place into someones own personalized space. She hopes her design aesthetics can be used to create an environment full of vibrancy and life; a permeant atmosphere of healing.

Stay Alive (at least for First Friday)
